HongKong Dim Sum at its Simply Best!

21 02 2011

Wish for authentic Hong Kong dim sum in Singapore where you don’t have to purchase an air ticket to savour it? Victor’s Kitchen @ Bencoolen Street is the joint to visit! Do not be fool by the setup of the outlet as it will take your breathe away just like Tom Cruise did in Top Gun!

Situated within the Sunshine Plaze, this heart warming dim sum joint will make your heart pounced not once, not twice but throughout the time as they will wow you on their simple but yet authentic Hong Kong style dim sum that will glued any gluttons to their seat. A usual sightings of packed house of patron is what Victor’s Kitchen is capable of!

Always remember there is one “sacred” procedure that you have to abide to, which is to request and place and order of XO sauce! A heavenly sauce that will conjoin any dim sum dishes and translate into angelic greatness. The all time personal favourite of mine, the Custard Bun with its grainy fillings oozed with great personality that is just pure enchantment to lay my hands on. The usual local favourite of Siew Mai and Har Gao are packed with total freshness that streamline from the meat fillings and the prawn equating in it. The Phoenix Porridge is light in texture and warm for all glutton’s stomach with the right composition of ingredients nothing too empowering nor strong. Last to finish off the meal, their recent hot seller on the menu and the must have, the Summer Ice Tea that is served in a bowl of ice! A soothing platform that maintain the chilling and refreshing effect which highly compliment the silky smooth ice milk tea less any after taste from the dryness. A big thumbs up!

An “A” list dim sum joint on my recommendation that served absolute authentic Hong Kong dim sum at simply reasonable price. Victor’s Kitchen is a must visit joint for all! Lastly if you are lucky, you will be able to experience the “3D blabbering” between its staff and the management personnel at the counter, a scenario that you will usually encounter in a Hong Kong food joint! A real true experience!!!

Graze @ Rochester

7 02 2011

Graze….a colonial styled restaurant, housed in the lush and greenery of Rochester may well be the ideal choice for all lazy brunchers that enjoy the companionship of alfresco weekend brunches!

With a simple but yet fulfilling selection from their brunch menu, patrons will be spoilt for choice and a sinful desire to amp up more calories in the making. Staff and kitchen crew are very much particular on their food preparations timing as we were surprised that they politely reject our request for immediate sitting on a goodwill gesture as they do not wish to rush on the food servings. A big thumbs up to their dedication on maintaining of their food quality especially we did not make any prior reservation for the brunches.

Their signature cast iron pan, which is their house favourite is must have for all! Hens egg are nicely cooked with the sunny side up presentation. The beans are light and not overwhelmed with tomatoes sauces that may leave behind an unpleasant after taste. Bacons are cooked with perfection, promising crispy feel but yet retaining the succulent texture with the sauted mushroom adding to the finishing touches to the grilled sausages served!

For all pancake lovers, their pancake stack must never be missed! An excellent propeller in calories that will filled any gluttons’ “fuel tank” to the brink. A heavenly combination of hot and cold food ingredients that consists fresh bananas, crispy fried bacons and with a scoop of melting ice cream, this will complete your lazy day! Another must have!!! *Photos do not lie! smile

For those who are keen for a more “meatier” approach on their brunches do note that their BBQ menu will start at 12pm! Check out from their friendly staff for more information!

Posh..+..Lush = Plush!

7 12 2010

PS Cafe…a name that associate itself as a refuge for social gathering, good food and drink. A line of description which can be so plain Jane but yet present itself as an affluent league of quality food and services.

Presence was made at its latest installment @ Ann Siang Hill under the arms of restaurant to celebrate my annual birthday and was ecstatic with the gush of impression and delights that await us. Upon setting foot into the restaurant, we were shown to our table and were greeted by cosy lightings, posh sitting upholstery, rustic woodies decor, old school English mode restroom and my favourite lush music in the setting.

Orders were placed and received with prompt attention and upon that, we were left admiring the surroundings as prepared by the management of PS Cafe which is also part of the menu from my own opinion creating the connection of decor that paired well with the food.  Food quality was at its pinnacle, the Flamed Prawn right from the sea project a total freshness platform. Cream sauce was not overpowering and light which goes well with the basil leave and shallot to create the aromatic experience.

The Fish & Chips, a regular selection on many restaurant menu did not disappoint. Crisp to the mouth while maintaining the texture without any admission of water retention within the fish and coupled with their homemade tartar hit it right on my taste bud. Delicious with freshness as promised!

For all gluttons that “camp” around CBD area, PS Cafe @ Ann Siang Hill is the place to be for your lunch, dinner or after work hours!

Breakfast @ Cocotte

5 12 2010

Was staying in Wanderlust as house guest and we had our complimentary breakfast @ Cocotte on a rainy setting.

The restaurant is well theme that integrate significantly with the boutique hotel and their decor of style coupled with nostalgic passion, brought us the combination of memory lane to the futuristic mode of reality. Raw design concept sets in, with old school barber seats that are bundled with plush lightings. Down in the middle of the restaurant, an octopus communal light system hanged firmly from the ceiling creating an impression of DIY inception.

The breakfast menu was light but fulfilling with cereals and bread spread on the buffet table. Food quality was maintained as what was anticipated and laid on for the bench mark. Service was prompt with no reservation nor doubts from the staff.

For anyone who are keen to have a stylish morning breakfast and a strong believer that ambience do play an important part of a good meal, Cocotte is the place to visit!

Hainan Chicken Rice Ball…

5 12 2010

With my stomach groaning, me and my gF were around @ Dickson area and decided to give this chicken rice ball stall a try on its unique presentation of the chicken rice.

We were greeted by a plate of boneless chicken drum stick and two nicely molded rice ball. The rice ball is robust with great fragrance and the chicken is tender and soft. The riceball may just taste well just by itself less any meat to go along with, the attached pictures will tell the tale! Overall, the chicken and rice ball compliment well with their homemade chilli sauce!

No frills, no hassle with a direct message to all patrons to serve quality Hainan chicken rice, this stall will satisfy any gluttons that knock on their stall!

Roars!

Carnivore…as the name imply…is a place for all hard core meat lovers. The second outlet from its primary location in Chjimes, this outlet tends to bring out a contemporary approach in its design and a spacious enhancement in terms of area for all its diners.

Was at Carnivore to celebrate my birthday and all of us had a fulfilling treat of meat that till of now to this point of entry…am still feeling meaty in my breathe. To start off with the meat adventure, we were shown to their salad bar that consist mainly cold and hots dishes erected from the veggies green as a balancing pivot point for the upcoming sinful meats!

An endless stream of freshly grilled meats, that range from beef, honey glazed ham, chicken hearts, mutton, fish, bacon wraps to name a few were all well marinated with spices and herbs were showcase at our table on a routine basis. A galore of meat!

The serving staff were always on the go, initiated on serving the best portion and cut of meat to every single patrons and ensure to fill all glutton’s stomach to its fullest. Thumbs up to them and once you are at your highest point of food intake…you can always “throw in the white flag” which to to show them a “NO,Thank you” tag to stop any serving of meat dishes.

Meat texture and quality is at its best and my advice to all meat lovers, is to request for the inner core of the meat which is the most succulent and juicy as compared to the outer layer that had been exposed to direct heat upon the grilling process which can be dryer and harder in texture.

So for all “gruesome” meat lovers…Carnivore is the place for your meat! * Roars
